SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Visual Studio .NET or Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, or when you start Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Library for Visual Studio .NET or for Visual Studio 2005, a dialog box may appear that contains the following message:

Please wait while Windows configures Product Name

Note Product Name is the placeholder for the name of the product.

CAUSE

The Mso.dll file is not updated correctly when Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005 is installed, or when MSDN Library for Visual Studio .NET or for Visual Studio 2005 is installed. Therefore, the dialog box appears every time that you start Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005, or you start MSDN Library for Visual Studio .NET or for Visual Studio 2005.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must delete the Mso.dll file and then repair Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Delete the Mso.dll file. This file is located in the following folder:

    Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office10

Note Drive is a placeholder for the disk drive where Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005 is installed.
  2. Repair the Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005 installation.

Note If Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005 is not installed on your computer, install Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005.
  3. After the installation process has completed, start Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005, or start MSDN Library for Visual Studio .NET or for Visual Studio 2005.

You do not receive the dialog box that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
