You receive an error message when you try to install IntelliType 5.1 software or IntelliPoint 5.1 software on a Windows XP SP1-based computer

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft IntelliType software for your keyboard or Microsoft IntelliPoint software for your mouse on your Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computer, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Bluetooth devices require Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, which is available on CD by contacting Microsoft Product Support Services, or for Web download at: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=13115

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:

You try to install Microsoft IntelliType Pro software version 5.1 or a later version, or Microsoft IntelliPoint Software 5.1or a later version.
You select Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer for Bluetooth or Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth during the IntelliType or the IntelliPoint installation.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: Download and install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)

Method 2: Download and install an earlier version of the software

With Microsoft IntelliType Pro software version 2.3 or with Microsoft IntelliPoint Software 4.9, the tilt wheel that is present in Optical Desktop Elite for Bluetooth 2.0 and Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer for Bluetooth 2.0 will not work. You must have IntelliType Pro software version 5.2 or Microsoft IntelliPoint Software 5.2.

Note If you installed IntelliType Pro software version 5.1 or IntelliPoint Software 5.1, you must remove IntelliType Pro software version 5.1 or IntelliPoint Software 5.1 before you install an earlier version.

Note Both IntelliType Pro software version 2.3 and IntelliPoint Software 4.9 require Windows XP SP1.

IntelliType Pro software version 2.3 and IntelliPoint Software 4.9 are not available for download. These products are only available on CD.
