After you click a hyperlink in a Office XP Web Component, Internet Explorer 6 quits unexpectedly

SYMPTOMS

If you click a hyperlink on a Web page that is contained in a Microsoft Office XP Web Component (OWC), such as in a Microsoft Excel Worksheet object, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 may quit unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when all the following conditions are true:

  • You installed Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
  • The version of the Microsoft Office XP Web Components that is installed on your computer is version 10.00.00.5851 or earlier.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install a later version of the Microsoft Office XP Web Components on your computer. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

To determine the version of the Microsoft Office XP Web Components that are installed on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Search.
  2. Click All files and folders.
  3. In the All or part of the file name text box, type owc10.dll.
  4. In the Look in drop-down list box, click your hard disk drive, and then click Search
  5. Right-click the file that was found, and then click Properties.
  6. On the Version tab, locate the file version.
