Issues that may occur when you use Outlook Mobile Access with Sony Ericsson mobile devices in Exchange Server 2003

A blank space appears at the beginning of the first line in all Outlook Mobile Access pages on a Sony Ericsson mobile device

Symptoms

When you use Microsoft Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T300 mobile device, on a Sony Ericsson T310/312/316 mobile device, or on a Sony Ericsson T610/616/618 mobile device, every Outlook Mobile Access page has a blank space at the beginning of the first line of the page. Only the first line is affected.

Cause

This issue occurs because all Sony Ericsson T300 mobile devices,all Sony Ericsson T310/312/316 mobile devices, and all Sony Ericsson T610/616/618 mobile devices insert a blank space at the beginning of the first line on every Outlook Mobile Access page.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue.

The Simplified Chinese character ¢ is changed to a square (□) when you post a message or when you view a message in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson P800/802 mobile device

Symptoms

When you try to post or to view a message that is written in Simplified Chinese (CHS) in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson P800/802 mobile device, the ¢ is changed to a square (□).

Cause

This issue occurs because the Sony Ericsson P800/802 mobile device cannot display the ¢ character.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue.

The text covers more space than you expect, and the horizontal scroll bar or the vertical scroll bar appear in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson P802 mobile device

Symptoms

When you view or you compose a message in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson P802 mobile device, you may notice the following:

  • When you view an e-mail message, the Subject field and the Sender field span more than two lines.
  • When you compose an e-mail message, and you click the To field or the CC field, a horizontal scroll bar appears at the bottom of the window.
  • When you type the reply text for an Out of Office Assistant message, a horizontal scroll bar appears at the bottom of the window, and a vertical scroll bar appears at the side of the window.

Cause

This issue occurs if you are using CHS characters in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson P802 mobile device. If CHS characters is the primary character set, the associated font and font size cause the fields and the text boxes to appear larger than the physical screen of the Sony Ericsson P802 mobile device. This causes horizontal scroll bars and vertical scroll bars to appear so that you can view larger fields and larger text boxes.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue.

The insertion point stays on the screen in the same location after you visit the Change Password page, and then you visit another page in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson P802 mobile device

Symptoms

After you visit the Change Password page in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson P802 mobile device, the pointer from the Change Password page can be seen in the same location. This issue occurs when you view another page in Outlook Mobile Access. The insertion point may obstruct text on the page that you view.

Cause

This issue occurs on the Sony Ericsson P802 mobile device when you view the Change Password page, and then you view another page in Outlook Mobile Access.

Workaround

To work around this issue, click the location where you want the insertion point and then continue to use Outlook Mobile Access.

A list of items that each have an option button in Outlook Mobile Access appear in a table on a Sony Ericsson T300 mobile device

Symptoms

Typically, Outlook Mobile Access does not display items that have an option button in a table. On the Sony Ericsson T300 mobile device, lists of items that have an option button appear in a bordered table.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Sony Ericsson T300 mobile device displays items that have an option button in a bordered table.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue. The option buttons for the items in the table work as you expect. Outlook Mobile Access is not affected by this issue.

The telephone call does not complete when you try to telephone a contact by using Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T300 mobile device

Symptoms

When you try to telephone a contact from the View Contacts page by using Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T300 mobile device, the telephone call is not completed. This issue also occurs anywhere else that a number is supplied by using Outlook Mobile Access.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a configuration error in Device Update 3 that deactivates Wireless Telephony Application Interface (WTAI) telephoning for the Sony Ericsson T300 mobile device.

Workaround

To work around this issue, you can upgrade Device Update 3 (DU3) to Device Update 4 (DU4). Alternatively, you can upgrade to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on your Exchange Server 2003-based computer that runs Outlook Mobile Access.

An e-mail message cannot be opened in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T310 mobile device

Symptoms

When you try to view an e-mail message in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T310 mobile device, the page may not open as you expect.

Cause

This issue may occur if all the following conditions are true:

  • The ratio of European characters to ASCII characters is more than 1 to 5.
  • All the dynamic headers have the maximum number of characters. For example, the Subject field, the To field, and the From field all have 200 characters.
  • The body of the e-mail message is very long.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue.

The Sony Ericsson T610/T616/T618 toggling Mark Read/Unread feature does not function. When you delete an item, you may receive an “Item not found” error message. When you save a draft of a message to the drafts folder, the draft of the message is saved two times

Symptoms

You may experience one or more of the following symptoms when you use Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T610 mobile device:

  • When you try to toggle an option to turn the item on or off, the status of the option remains unchanged. For example, if Mark Read/Unread is toggled off, and you click Mark Read/Unread to toggle the option on, Mark Read/Unread remains off.
  • When you try to delete an item, you receive the following error message:

    Item not Found

  • When you try to save a draft of a message, two copies of the item are saved in the drafts folder.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Sony Ericsson T610 mobile device does not understand the .aspx file name extension. The Sony Ericsson T610 sends a HEAD request before each GET request. However, a HEAD request and a GET request are the same. Outlook Mobile Access responds to both requests and may perform an action two times.

Workaround

To work around this issue, install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on your Exchange Server 2003-based computer. To install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1, see the link that is mentioned in "The telephone call does not complete when you try to telephone a contact by using Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T300 mobile device" section.

This is a device-specific issue. Changes have been made to Outlook Mobile Access in Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 to work around this issue.

Some double byte character set characters do not appear correctly on the Chinese version of the Sony Ericsson T610 mobile device that supports double byte characters

Symptoms

When you view some double byte character set (DBCS) characters in Outlook Mobile Access on a Chinese version of the Sony Ericsson T610 mobile device, the characters do not appear correctly. The following characters do not appear correctly: 郂乗乕④も菼飔.

Cause

This issue occurs because the characters do not display correctly after they have been sent through Outlook Mobile Access. The characters can be entered by using the Chinese version of the Sony Ericsson T610 mobile device, but do not appear correctly after the characters are sent through Outlook Mobile Access.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue.

The telephone call does not complete when you try to telephone a contact by using Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T68i mobile device

Symptoms

When you try to telephone a contact from the View Contacts page in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T68i mobile device, the telephone call is not completed. This issue also occurs anywhere else that a number is supplied in Outlook Mobile Access.

Cause

This issue occurs because early versions of the Sony Ericsson T68i mobile device do not support Wireless Telephony Application Interface (WTAI) call links in XHTML-basic rendering.

Workaround

To work around this issue and to enable complete WTAI functionality on the Sony Ericsson T68i, you must upgrade to the latest firmware version of the T68i mobile device. For additional information, visit the following Sony Ericsson Web site:

Some items do not open in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T68i mobile device

Symptoms

When you try to view a message or a contact by using Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T68i mobile device, the item does not open.

Cause

This issue may occur because the Sony Ericsson T68i mobile device has limited onboard device memory. Typically, this issue occurs if the item that you try to open contains lots of DBCS characters.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue.

An additional space appears at the beginning of every task item in the Tasks list in Outlook Mobile Access on a Sony Ericsson T68i mobile device

Symptoms

When you view the Tasks list in Outlook Mobile Access, you see an additional space in front of every task name in the list.

The first line in the Tasks list has an additional space at the beginning of the item only for Sony Ericsson T68i mobile devices that have software version R502 or a later version installed.

Cause

This issue occurs because of the way the Tasks list appears on the Sony Ericsson T68i mobile device. Outlook Mobile Access works correctly and is not affected by this display issue.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue.
