SYMPTOMS

You use Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 5 (SP5) on a Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4-based computer to open and to modify remote files that are stored by using the Rational ClearCase dynamic view. The remote files may become corrupted when you use Visual Studio 6.0 to save the changes. Also, you may receive an error message in the Visual Studio 6.0 IDE that is similar to the following:

The volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid.
(Win32:ERROR_FILE_INVALID 1006, NTSTATUS:STATUS_FILE_INVALID 0xC0000098).

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing.
