Project: Duration Incorrectly Recalculated to Zero

Q86732

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0
  • Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, version 3.0
  • Microsoft Windows versions 3.0, 3.1

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Project inaccurately recalculates the duration of a task to be zero days if you enter actual dates that are designated as nonworking days on the Base Calendar but are designated as working days on the Resource Calendar.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior (version 3.0)

  1. In the Task Form, enter a task in the Name box. Under Resource Name, add a resource to the task.
  2. From the Options menu, choose Project Info. Under Schedule Project From, select the Start: Option button, change the start date and time of the project to 7/10/92 8:00 A.M., then choose the OK button. The Scheduled Start box on the Task Form should now read 7/10/92 8:00 A.M.
  3. From the Options menu, choose Resource Calendars. Select the date 7/11, and select the Working option button so that 7/11 is designated as a working day.
  4. In Task Form or Task Edit Form, enter actual dates of 7/11 8:00 A.M. to 7/11 5:00 P.M.

At this point, the Duration box reads 0d, and the Scheduled Start and the Scheduled Finish boxes read 7/11/92 5:00 P.M.
