SYMPTOMS

Your Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer may stop unexpectedly, and you receive the following stop error message:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer...
Technical information:

      • STOP: 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

Note The four parameters in this error message may vary depending on the cause of the stop error.

Additionally, your computer may unexpectedly restart.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you have two or more programs that use filter drivers in a background process, such as an antivirus program that is providing real-time virus protection or an on-screen news feed program that displays a filtered list of news items.
