APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server may incorrectly report the amount of installed RAM in some computers. For example, if you install four 2-gigabyte (GB) DIMM RAM modules, Windows 2000 Server may report that only 6 GB of RAM are available.
Note This problem does not affect the correct use of all the installed RAM. The problem affects only the amount of RAM that is reported. Windows 2000 Server still uses all the installed RAM.
CAUSE
Windows 2000 Advanced Server supports a maximum of 8 GB of RAM. Windows 2000 Datacenter Server supports a maximum of 64 GB of RAM. However, on some computers, the code that handles the maximum amount of supported memory uses the highest physical page to determine the amount of installed RAM in the computer. This scenario can cause Windows to incorrectly report the amount of installed RAM.
