SYMPTOMS
The SetProxy method sets the proxy server for an HTTP request. When you create an application that uses the WinHttpRequest object, if you call the Open method before you call the SetProxy method, your application may leak two event handles every time that the application makes an HTTP request.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that this article describes. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

To verify that your application has a handle leak, monitor the Handle count in Microsoft Windows Task Manager. In Task Manager, verify that the application is leaking two handles every time that your application makes a new request. Also, verify that the handles are not released for a long time.
