SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Microsoft Streets & Trips, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

Ordinal not found. Ordinal 77 could not be located in the dyanmic link library oleaut32.dll.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the Oleaut32.dll file is out of date or is corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use the method that is appropriate for your operating system.

Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

Download the Run-Time Repair Tool (Runtifix.exe) to install the latest versions of the system files.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
The Runtifix.exe file contains the following files:

  • Asycfilt.dll
  • Mfc42.dll
  • Msvcrt.dll
  • Oleaut32.dll
  • Olepro32.dll
  • Stdole2.tlb

To install the Runtifix.exe file, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click the Runtifix.exe file.
  2. Click Yes to continue if Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later is installed on your computer.
  3. Click OK.
  4. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.

Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP

To extract the file from the .cab files and replace the existing file with the extracted file, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Streets & Trips Setup disc in your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive, and then hold down the SHIFT key to prevent the Setup program from running.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type expand drive:\osp\1033\osp1.cab /F:oleaut32.dll c:\, where drive is the drive letter of your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive.
  4. Verify that the OLEAUT32.dll file has been expanded to your C drive.
  5. Restart the computer and hold down the F8 key until you see the Windows Advanced Options Menu.
  6. Select Safe Mode with Command prompt, and then press ENTER.
  7. To replace the Oleaut32.dll file with the extracted file, follow these steps:
    For Windows 2000, follow these steps:
    1. At the command prompt, type cd \winnt\system32, and then press ENTER.
    2. At the command prompt, type rename oleaut32.dll oleaut32.old, and then press ENTER.
    3. At the command prompt, type move c:\oleaut32.dll c:\winnt\system32, and then press ENTER.

    For Windows XP, follow these steps:

    1. At the command prompt, type cd \windows\system32, and then press ENTER.
    2. At the command prompt, type rename oleaut32.dll oleaut32.old, and then press ENTER.
    3. At the command prompt, type move c:\oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system32, and then press ENTER.
  8. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL.
  9. To restart your computer, follow these steps:

    For Windows 2000, follow these steps:
    1. Click Shutdown.
    2. Click Restart.
    3. Click OK.

    For Windows XP, follow these steps:

    1. On the Shutdown menu, click Restart.
