Search results page throughput may be slower when the number of searches increases

Article ID: 835249

Article Last Modified on 2/4/2004

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 Connector for SharePoint Technologies

SYMPTOMS

When a search returns more than 10000 results, the search result throughput of Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) with MCMS Connector for SharePoint Technologies appears slower than the search result throughput in an environment that only uses Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Searches.GetByUrl method and the Searches.GetByGUID method in MCMS have response time limitations. These response time limitations affect the throughput of the search result page. Each method carries a response time delay that contributes to overall throughput of a search.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Server Configuration Application (SCA) to increase the size of the memory node cache on the MCMS computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
