SYMPTOMS

Domain controllers may sometimes be missing from the domain master browser list on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based domain controller.

CAUSE

The master browser announcement that is received by the primary domain controller (PDC) may be dropped by the PDC. The master browser announcement may be dropped if the PDC is busy. For this article, a "busy" PDC is defined by how frequently the PDC receives the master browser announcement. If the PDC is busy, a master browser announcement may be dropped if a master browser announcement is received, and then another master browser announcement is received before the browser issues another input/output (I/O) request.
