SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION

This step-by step article describes how to configure a computer that is running Windows XP Professional to run Microsoft Solution for Internet Business 2.1. Before you can successfully install Microsoft Solution for Internet Business 2.1, you must prepare the Windows XP Professional-based computer by installing and configuring the following applications in the correct order:

  • The latest Windows XP service pack and critical updates
  • Internet Information Services
  • SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition and Analysis Services
  • Visual Studio .NET 2002 Enterprise Architect Edition or Visual Studio .NET 2003 Enterprise Architect Edition
  • Commerce Server 2002 Developer Edition
  • Content Manager Server 2002



Install and configure Windows XP Professional

Install and configure Microsoft Windows XP Professional, and then make sure that all the critical updates have been applied. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Windows XP Professional CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
  2. In the Welcome to Windows XP dialog box, click Install Windows XP, and then follow the prompts.
  3. You must apply the latest Windows XP critical updates and service packs when the Windows XP Professional installation is complete. To download the latest critical updates and service packs, visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Web site:

Install the Internet Information Services (IIS) component

When you have applied all the critical security updates on your computer that is running Windows XP Professional, add the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) component. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. In Windows XP Professional, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  4. In the Windows Components Wizard dialog box, click the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box, click Next, and then click Finish.

Install and configure SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition and Analysis Services

Install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition and Microsoft Analysis Services for SQL Server 2000, and then install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3a or later. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Install SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition. You can find the installation instructions in the readme.htm file that is located in the root directory of the SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition CD-ROM. To download the latest SQL Server 2000 service pack, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  2. Install Analysis Services for SQL Server 2000. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Insert the SQL Server 2000 Developer CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive on your Windows XP Professional-based computer.
    2. In the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition dialog box, click SQL Server 2000 Components, click Install Analysis Services, follow the installation instructions, and then click Finish.
  3. Apply the latest SQL Server 2000 service pack. For more information, see the sp#readme.htm file that is contained in the root directory of the SQL Server 2000 Service Pack folder or on the CD-ROM, where # is the service pack number.
  4. Use SQL Query Analyzer to verify that the SQL Server 2000 installation is updated correctly. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Query Analyzer.
    2. In the Connect to SQL Server dialog box, click the ellipsis button (...).
    3. In the Select Server dialog box, click (local), and then click OK.
    4. In the Connect to SQL Server dialog box, select the authentication type, and then click OK.
    5. On the Query page in SQL Query Analyzer, type select @@version, and then click the Execute Query icon on the SQL Query Analyzer menu bar. You receive the following value:

  5. Create a database for Microsoft Content Manager Server. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Enterprise Manager.
    2. In SQL Server Enterprise Manager, expand Microsoft SQL Servers, expand SQL Server Group, and then expand (local) (Windows NT).
    3. Right-click Databases, and then click New Database.
    4. In the Database Properties dialog box, type a descriptive name in the Name box. For example, type MCMS, and then click OK.

Install Visual Studio .NET 2002 Enterprise Architect Edition or Visual Studio .NET 2003 Enterprise Architect Edition

Install Visual Studio .NET 2002 Enterprise Architect Edition or Visual Studio .NET 2003 Enterprise Architect Edition. To do this, follow the instructions that are located in the readme.htm file on disk 1 of the Visual Studio .NET installation CD-ROM set.

Note We recommend that you also install the latest version of the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Library.

Install and configure Commerce Server 2002 Developer Edition

Install Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Developer Edition, and then apply the latest service pack. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Install Commerce Server 2002 Developer. To do this, follow the instructions in the Readme.htm file that is located in the root directory of the Commerce Server 2002 Developer Edition installation CD-ROM.

    Note If you are a member of a workgroup, you must set the following registry key to 0: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Lsa/forceguest
  2. Apply the latest Commerce Server 2002 service pack. To download the latest Commerce Server 2002 service pack, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  3. After you download the Commerce Server 2002 service pack, follow the installation instructions in the readme_sp#.htm file, where # is the service pack number.

Install and configure Content Manager Server 2002

Install Microsoft Internet Explorer Web Controls, install Microsoft Content Management Server, and then apply the service packs that you must have. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Content Management Server CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive on your Windows XP Professional-based computer. In Windows Explorer, locate the webcontrols folder, and then double-click iewebcontrols.msi. This installs Internet Explorer Web Controls.
  2. Install Content Management Server. To install Content Management Server, see the GetStrt.chm file that is located in the documentation folder on the Content Management Server installation CD-ROM.

    Important In the step that follows, make sure that you clear the Launch Database Configuration after Install check box.
  3. Apply the latest Content Management Server service pack. To download the latest service pack for Content Management Server, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    Note If you are prompted to install the J# redistributable runtime package during the service pack installation, you can download the Visual J# .NET Version 1.1 redistributable package. To download the Visual J# .NET Version 1.1 redistributable package, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

  4. At the end of the Content Management service pack installation, click the Launch Database Configuration after Install check box, and then click Finish.
  5. To continue the configuration of the Content Management Server database, see the GetStrt.chm file that is located in the documentation folder on the Content Management Server installation CD-ROM.

Install and configure Microsoft Solution for Internet Business (MSIB) 2.1

Download MSIB 2.1. To download MSIB 2.1, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

To install MSIB 2.1, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click msib21.exe, extract the MSIB 2.1 files to a temporary folder, double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the setup instructions.
  2. Locate the \Progam Files\Microsoft Solution for Internet Business 2.1 folder, and then double-click MSIB21.pup to unpack the solutions file.
  3. In the Commerce Server Site Packager dialog box, click Quick unpack, and then click Next.
  4. In the Quick Unpack dialog box, accept the defaults, and then click Next.
  5. In the Profiling System dialog box, you can either accept the defaults or modify the definitions. When you have finished, click Next.
  6. In the second Profiling System dialog box, accept the defaults, or modify the search strings. When you have finished, click Next, and then click Finish.
  7. Locate the machine.config file in Windows Explorer. By default, the machine.config file is located in the \WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\version\CONFIG folder.
  8. *This step is for the development environment only*. Double-click machine.config, locate the <Processmodel> section in the Microsoft Development Environment console, and then change the username value to system. By default, the username value is typically set to machine or to user.


Note We recommend that you switch the username value back to machine to increase the security on the computer.

Import the MSIB21.sdo file by using Site Server

Note Before you can import the MSIB21.sdo file by using Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 Site Server, you must first reset IIS by using the IISRESET utility from the command line.

  1. Reset IIS by using the IISRESET utility from the command line. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
    2. In the command line console, type iisreset and then press Enter. This will stop and start the IIS Services on the local computer.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft Content Management Server, and then click Site Manager.
  3. In the Site Manager connection dialog box, type the name or the IP Address of the Content Manager Server, type 80 in the Port box, and then click OK.
  4. In the Site Manager credentials dialog box, click Log on as Adminstrator or click Log on as the following user, and then click Start.
  5. On the menu bar of the Site Manager console, click File, click Package, and then click Import.
  6. In the Site Deployment Import - Microsoft Content Management Server dialog box, accept the defaults, and then click Browse.
  7. In the Select SDO file for Import dialog box, locate the MSIB21.sdo file, and then click Open. By default, the MSIB21.sdo file is located in the \Program Files\Microsoft Solution for Internet Business 2.1 folder.
  8. In the Site Deployment Import - Microsoft Content Management Server dialog box, click Import.
  9. In the Import Confirmation dialog box, read the warning message, and then click Continue.
  10. In the Import of MCMS Object Package MSIB21.sdo Completed dialog box, click OK.
  11. Use SQL Query Analyzer and connect to the MSIB Commerce database, and then run the following scripts that are located in the \Program Files\Microsoft Solution for Internet Business 2.1 folder:
    • AdventureWorks_campaigns.sql
    • AdventureWorks_profiles.sql
    • AdventureWorks_transactionconfig.sql

    To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Query Analyzer.
    2. In the Connect to SQL Server dialog box, click the ellipses button (...).
    3. In the Select Server dialog box, click (local), and then click OK.
    4. In the Connect to SQL Server dialog box, select the authentication type, and then click OK.
    5. In the SQL Query Analyzer console, click the drop-down arrow on the menu bar, and then click MSIB21_commerce.
    6. On the SQL Query Analyzer menu bar, click File, and then click Open.
    7. In the Open Query File dialog box, locate the AdventureWorks_campaigns.sql file, and then click Open.
    8. In the SQL Query Analyzer console, click the Execute Query icon on the menu bar.
    9. Repeat steps f through h for the remaining scripts.
  12. Start Internet Explorer, and then type http://ServerName/msib21bizdesk in the Address bar.
  13. In the Connect to dialog box, type your user name and password, and then click OK.
  14. On the Business Desk Client Setup Web page, click Start Business Desk.
  15. In the left pane of the Commerce Server: Welcome to Business Desk Web page, expand Catalogs, and then click Catalog Editor.
  16. Under Catalogs in the right pane, click Import, and then click Import XML.
  17. In the Import XML Catalog dialog box, click Browse, locate the AdventureWorks.xml file that is located in the \Program Files\Microsoft Solution for Internet Business 2.1 folder, click Open, and then click OK.
  18. In the Business Desk: Import XML Catalog dialog box, click OK.
