Article ID: 830067

Article Last Modified on 10/30/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

On your Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, or your Microsoft Windows NT, 4.0 Server, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Event ID 2020 The Server Was Unable to allocate from the pagepool because the page pool is empty.

When you receive this error message, you must restart your computer.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you have installed WQuinn's QuotaAdvisor 4.1, build 452 or earlier on your computer.

This problem occurs if the QAServer service account does not have write permissions to the QAQuotasV4.dat file in the root directory. As a result, a memory leak occurs. If permissions are not correct, the QAFilter driver allocates memory repeatedly until the paged pool is full.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can remove QuotaAdvisor from your computer.

You may also try to contact the vendor of QuotaAdvisor to obtain information about how to correct this behavior, or to inquire about an update for this product.
