SYMPTOMS
Microsoft SNA Server applications that are configured to use single sign-on (SSO) may experience delays when connecting to IBM mainframe computers or to AS/400-based computers. When a delay occurs, users may notice that a transaction that was initiated by an application takes noticeably longer to complete. If the application is configured with a timeout, users may notice that the transaction is canceled because of the long delay in processing the SSO request.
The third-party products that this article discusses are manufactured by companies that are independent of Microsoft. Microsoft makes no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding the performance or reliability of these products.
CAUSE
The SNA Server host security DLL file, Snasii.dll, calls the ReleaseSemaphore() function to signal the pool of worker threads when a new SSO account lookup is added to an internal memory queue. However, the function that calls ReleaseSemaphore() does not check the return code to determine whether the ReleaseSemaphore() call completed successfully.
If ReleaseSemaphore() is unsuccessful, the worker threads that process the SSO account lookup requests are not signalled. Because not all the worker threads are used, processing the SSO account lookup requests is slower. This results in response times that are unusually slow for the SNA application.
RESOLUTION
