SYMPTOMS
When you try to use your backup software to restore a database from backup, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
CAUSE
This problem may occur if you make a backup of a database, and the read hint size is larger than the size of the database. The read hint size is the buffer size that the backup client uses to complete read file operations. The read hint size is used to determine the number of internal buffers that must be present to open the files. Shared memory uses five times the read hint size. The recommended read hint size is 64 kilobytes (KB). However, the read hint size can be up to 5 megabytes (MB). If the read hint size is 5 megabytes, the shared memory tries to allocate 25 megabytes of address space. The error occurs when you try to restore the database, and the address space is not sufficient.
