SYMPTOMS
In certain situations, you may find that a user whose mailbox is stored on a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server computer unexpectedly receives two copies of the same message in their Inbox.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the Information Store incorrectly processes the PR_CLIENT_SUBMIT_TIME property of Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) messages. Because the PR_CLIENT_SUBMIT_TIME property of the messages that are sent by using a MAPI and that are sent by using the Internet are different, two copies of the message are delivered to the Inbox of the recipient. For example, this problem may occur in a scenario where both the following conditions are true:
- In an environment where two Exchange sites are connect by a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) connector, an Exchange 2000 user in one site sends an e-mail message to a recipient who is located in the same site as the sender and to a recipient who is located in the other Exchange site.
- The recipient in the other Exchange site has an alternate recipient who is set to the other recipient who is located in the same site as the sender.
In this situation, the recipient who is located in the same site as the sender receives two copies of the same message.
