SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade Microsoft Windows Movie Maker from one of the following Microsoft Web sites, Movie Maker may not upgrade to Movie Maker 2:
CAUSE
This problem may occur if some .dll files and the Moviemk.exe file are not replaced during setup.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, follow these steps:
- Quit Movie Maker.
- Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
- In Windows Explorer, locate the following folder:
C:\Windows\RegisteredPackages\{60BFF50D-FB2C-4498-A577-C9548C390BB9}
- Copy the files contained in the {60BFF50D-FB2C-4498-A577-C9548C390BB9} folder to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Movie Maker
- Click Yes to All in the Confirm File Replace dialog box.
- In the C:\Program Files\Movie Maker folder, right-click the Mm20ex.inf file, and then click Install.
- Double-click the Moviemk.exe file to start Movie Maker 2.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
