SYMPTOMS

After you apply the Q814978 hotfix, you may experience problems if multiple nested user-defined types (UDTs) contain the OCCURS Depending On (ODO) clause when the UDTs send data to the host. All data after a nested ODO clause will be sent as null values (hexadecimal 00).

MORE INFORMATION

The following is an example of a data definition that fails:

01 INPUT-DATA-AREA.
    05 UDT-LEVEL-1.
        15 UDT-LEVEL-2A.
            20 LENGTH2A PIC S9(9) COMP.
            20 UDT-LEVEL-3 OCCURS 10000 TIMES
                            DEPENDING ON LENGTH2A.
                25 LENGTH3 PIC S9(9) COMP.
                25 MYDATA OCCURS 5000 TIMES
                           DEPENDING ON LENGTH3
                               PIC X.
        15 UDT-LEVEL-2B.
            20 MYSTRING PIC X(9).
            20 BALANCE PIC S9(7)V99 COMP-3.

In this example, the data that is sent to the host for MYSTRING and BALANCE is made up of all null characters (hexadecimal 00) instead of the data that is passed to COMTI by the client program. This problem only occurs if you use the ODO clause.
