SYMPTOMS
If a custom-written server-side application or service receives data from a client application over TCP/IP, and the client mistakenly sends many data packets with the TCP urgent (or Out-of-Band [OOB]) bit set, the server may eventually run out of non-paged pool memory, and as a result, it may stop responding or quit unexpectedly.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because work buffers for the incoming urgent packets are not freed if the server-side application does not handle them correctly, and therefore the server eventually runs out of non-paged pool memory. If additional urgent data is received, the server may not be able to handle the data, and therefore it may stop responding or quit unexpectedly.
