SYMPTOMS

When you send a duplicate message to a public folder by using a message rule or by using a program, the message is delivered successfully. As a result, the same message may be delivered multiple times to a public folder.

You do not expect a duplicate message to be delivered to a public folder. A duplicate message is not delivered to a mailbox.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the duplicate detection functionality in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server does not work correctly for public folders. In this scenario, the table that tracks a delivered message is not correctly updated with the correct folder ID (FID).
