APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.1

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You are running some Microsoft Outlook clients that have the Protek P772 extension installed. These Outlook clients connect to a Microsoft Exchange 2000 server. You send an e-mail message with an attachment to a user who is in a third-party X.400 mail system. For example, the user uses a Nexor X.400 mail system. Then, the e-mail message is sent in the following order:

  • The e-mail message is sent from the Exchange 2000 server to a Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5.
  • The Exchange 5.5 server sends the e-mail message to the third-party mail system through an X.400 connector.

In this scenario, the third-party message transfer agent (MTA) cannot decode the e-mail message.
