The minimum system requirements for Streets and Trips are:
- PC with Pentium 133 Megahertz (MHz) or faster processor (Pentium III is recommended).
- One of the following Microsoft operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 (SP6) or later (requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 browser software; Internet Explorer 6 included)
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- For Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition: 24 Megabytes (MB) of RAM for the operating system; other programs running at the same time may require additional memory.
- For Windows Millennium Edition (Me) or Windows NT Server 4.0: 32 MB of RAM for the operating system; other programs running at the same time may require additional memory.
- For Windows NT Workstation 4.0: 36 MB of RAM for the operating system; other programs running at the same time may require additional memory.
- For Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP Professional: 64 MB of RAM (128 MB recommended) for the operating system; other programs running at the same time may require additional memory.
- 925 MB of available hard-disk space for standard installation (295 MB for minimum installation); users without Windows 2000 or later, Windows Millennium Edition (Me), or Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 or later require an extra 50 MB for System Files Update (hard-disk usage will vary depending on configuration).
- Quad-speed or faster CD-ROM drive.

The following is a list of additional items or services that you must have to use certain features of Streets and Trips 2003:
- Microsoft Exchange, Internet SMTP/POP3, IMAP4, or MAPI-compliant messaging software is required to use the "Send To" feature.
- Outlook 2000 or later is required to use the "Send To" feature to send a picture.
- GPS functionality requires a GPS device that supports NMEA 2.0 or later.
- Some Internet functionality may require Internet access and payment of a separate fee to a service provider; local or long-distance telephone toll charges may apply.
- 14,400 or higher-baud modem.
- Microsoft ActiveSync 3.1 or later is required to install Pocket Streets.
- Pocket Streets can be installed only on Pocket PCs that are running Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 or later.
