"Stop" Error Message in Cdr4_2K.sys When You Connect an iLink CD-RW DVD-ROM Combination Drive

SYMPTOMS

When you connect a Sony iLink CD-RW DVD-ROM IEEE 1394 combination drive to your computer, you may receive a "Stop" error message on a blue screen that is similar to the following:

Stop: 0X0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xF7565A59, 0x00000000, 0x00000028)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT-HANDLED

      • Address F7565A59 base at F7564000, DateStamp 3d90d765 – Cdr4_2K.sys

After you restart the computer, the Stop error does not recur.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if all of the following conditions are true:

  • You are running Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4).


-and-

  • You install Windows Media Player 9 Series on the computer.


-and-

  • You connect the iLink CD-RW DVD-ROM IEEE 1394 drive to the computer.

This issue occurs in the third-party Cdr4_2k.sys file that is distributed by Microsoft in Windows Media Player 9 Series.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact Roxio to obtain the latest plug-in update. To do this, visit the following Roxio Web site and search the Roxio Knowledgebase for article PLG000001:
