"Cannot Start 8876480: Invalid Configuration" Error Message When You Log On to Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

When you log on to your Windows XP-based computer, you may receive the following error message:

Cannot start 8876480: Invalid Configuration

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Logitech Desktop Messenger program is installed on your computer.

To work around this issue, log on to the computer with an account that has administrator credentials, and then remove the Logitech Desktop Messenger software from your computer. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. In the Currently installed programs box, click Logitech Desktop Messenger, and then click Remove or Change/Remove.
  3. If you are prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click Yes.
