BUG: "The Wizard Timed out Waiting for a Cluster Operation to Complete" Error Message on Windows XP

Article ID: 821124

Article Last Modified on 6/4/2003

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Application Center 2000 Service Pack 2

SYMPTOMS

If you install the Application Center 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) client on either a Windows XP Professional-based computer or on Windows 2000 Professional- based computer, and then you create a cluster by using the client computer, the new cluster wizard may appear unsuccessful and you may receive the following error message:

The Wizard was Unsuccessful
The wizard timed out waiting for a cluster operation to complete.
0xC00705B4
This operation returned because the timeout period expired.
(0xc00705b4)

CAUSE

This error occurs because Internet Information Services (IIS) has not been installed.

RESOLUTION

Although the cluster has been created, the wizard appears unsuccessful. If you exit the wizard and try again, the wizard succeeds and you can see the cluster in the snap-in. However, the IIS portion of the snap-in does not initialize.

To make sure that the Application Center snap-in is fully functional, install IIS. This activates the IIS portion of the snap-in.

If you installed IIS or only the common files for IIS before you installed Application Center 2000 SP2, the error does not occur.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
