APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001, when used with:
    • Microsoft Office 2000 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) on a computer where the SharePoint Portal Server client components are also installed, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • When you start Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2000, you receive an error message that is similar to the following message:

    Runtime error!
R6025 - pure virtual function call

  • If you change the LoadBehavior value in the following registry key to 1, PowerPoint 2000 starts; however, the Check in and the Check out commands do not appear on the File menu:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\PowerPoint\Addins\PKMOfficeAddIn.PwrPntUI.1

As a result, you cannot click Check in or Check out on the File menu in PowerPoint 2000 to check in or to check out PowerPoint presentations (.ppt files) to the Document Library of SharePoint Portal Server.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an incompatibility between the SharePoint Portal Server client components and some of the updated PowerPoint 2000 components that are included with Office 2000 SP3.

RESOLUTION

This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you have installed SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 3 or a later service pack, you do not have to apply the hotfix.
