Article ID: 817109

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003

  • Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003
  • Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003
  • Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003
  • Microsoft Office Access 2003

SYMPTOMS

After you install a Microsoft Office component through the Install on Demand feature of Office 2003, the .cab files for that installation remain in the "Drive_letter:\MSOCache\AllUsers" subfolders. This symptom occurs although the installation of Microsoft Office 2003 was configured not to use the Local Install Source feature.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Install on Demand Setup feature of Office 2003 sets the location of the installation .cab file to be in the appropriate subfolder of the "Drive_letter:\MSOCache\AllUsers" folder. You cannot bypass this setting unless the hard disk where the MSOCache files are located drops below 1.5 gigabytes of free space. At that point, all installations will be of the "Run from Server" type.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

For more information about using the Local Install Source feature during an Administrative installation, view the Microsoft Office 2003 Resource Kit.
