SYMPTOMS

When you try to establish a remote control connection to a server by using the IBM Tivoli Director version 3.1 program, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • You receive the following error message:

    Remote Control - (server name).
The remote control service was unable to connect.

    -and-
  • The remote server stops responding (freezes).

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you try to establish a remote control connection from a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based server to another Windows Server 2003-based server on which the Tivoli Agent program is running.

This issue occurs because when the program tries to establish the remote control session on the client computer, it installs its own mouse and keyboard filter drivers. The installation of the keyboard filter driver is unsuccessful on the Windows Server 2003 client computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact IBM to obtain an updated version of the Tivoli Director program.
