PRB: Cannot process a cube after you install SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 3

Article ID: 812601

Article Last Modified on 11/21/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services

SYMPTOMS

You may not be able to process a cube after you install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 3 (SP3), if the Data folder for Analysis Services is located on a different computer than the computer that has Analysis Services installed.

You may receive error messages that are similar to:

Unable to connect to the registry on the server (<computer name>), or you are not a member of the OLAP Administrators group on this server.

-or-

Analysis Server Error: File error [during the Open operation] 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Analysis Services\Data\FoodMart 2000\Budget'S.mdl Access is denied. ' ; Time:3/18/2003 2:45:58 PM

Analysis Server Error: File error [during the Open operation] 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Analysis Services\Data\FoodMart 2000\Budget'S.mdl Access is denied. ' ; Time:3/18/2003 2:45:58 PM

Error(-2147221421): Internal error (Server initializing Cube 'Budget' (final)); Time:3/18/2003 2:45:58 PM

Error(-2147221421): Internal error (Unexpected internal error (Cube 'Budget')); Time:3/18/2003 2:45:58 PM

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the security permissions change on the Data folder when you install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services SP3.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, assign the OLAP Administrators group full control of the remote Data folder.

MORE INFORMATION

If you apply SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services Service Pack 3 to an instance of Analysis Services that is running in a clustered environment, you must give the domain-level OLAP Administrators group full control access to the remote Data folder.
