XGEN: Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3 Setup Creates Unnecessary Entries in the Windows Registry

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3 (SP3), the following unnecessary keys are created in the Windows registry:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{your
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\AppID
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\each

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\GUID}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\name'
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\provider
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\provider's
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\s
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\sections

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

You can safely leave them on the computer and ignore them, or delete them. To delete the registry keys:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Delete the following registry keys, and then quit Registry Editor:
