SYMPTOMS

After you select a mapped network drive letter, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • The drive letter you selected may change unexpectedly.
  • Only the drive letter that is closest to the end of the alphabet may be selected.

Example

For example, this symptom may occur under the following conditions:

  1. You have mapped two or more network drives to the same network share. For example, drive A, drive B, and drive C.
  2. You start an Office XP program such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.
  3. You open either the Save As or Open dialog box. To do so, you click Save As or Open on the File menu.
  4. In the Look in box, you click My Computer to view available drives.
  5. Although you click drive A or drive B, drive C appears in the Look in box.

This problem is corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3.To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office XP.
