3-D Area Charts Plot Negative Values as Positive

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0

SUMMARY

There are seven types of 3-D area and four types of 3-D line charts in Microsoft Excel. 3-D stacked area charts (types 1-4) plot negative values differently than all other chart types. 3-D line chart type 4 cannot accept any negative or zero values.

MORE INFORMATION

Negative numbers will be charted as their absolute values in 3-D area chart types 1-4. Types 5-7 will display negative numbers as negative.

3-D line chart type 4 is based on a logarithmic scale and, therefore, cannot accept negative or zero values because these values are undefined on a logarithmic scale. This is also true for 2-D line chart types 4 and 5.
