SUMMARY

To create a SCREEN.VID video driver file for the IBM Color Graphics Adapter (CGA) using the Word 5.50 SETUP.EXE utility, do the following:

  1. Start SETUP.EXE.

  2. When prompted by Setup, specify the type of installation: floppy disk, hard disk, or network. Select the disk drive and directory where Word version 5.50 has been installed.

  3. Choose to modify an existing copy of Word.

  4. Choose to install a different video driver.

  5. Select “IBM PC XT, AT, PS/2 or 100% compatible” from the list of computer types.

Note: If using memory resident programs (also called TSRs, or terminate-and-stay-resident programs), you may need to select the “Safe keyboard support for TSRs, 3270 emulators” option to ensure keyboard compatibility with Word 5.50 and memory resident programs.

  6. Select “IBM CGA” from the list of display adapters.

  7. Choose to complete setup and modify Word.

Resulting SCREEN.VID file sizes for IBM CGA created by Setup are as follows:

Setup Option File Size ———— ———-

IBM PC XT, AT, PS/2 or 100% compatible 16276 bytes

Safe keyboard support for TSRs, 3270 emulators 18374 bytes (contains BIOSSAFE.KBD keyboard driver)
