SUMMARY
To search for multiple COMMAND.COM files on your hard drive, enter the following DOS command at the DOS prompt of the root directory (that is, the C: prompt):
attrib /s command.com
The Attrib command will search all directories and list the path and location of all COMMAND.COM files. This command is very useful for diagnosing problems that can arise in having multiple COMMAND.COM files (particularly if they are different versions). The “/s” parameter stands for “search.”
The same command can be used to search for any file:
attrib /s filename
This command is available beginning with MS-DOS version 3.30.
The Attrib /s command is an effective tool for performing a fast global search through multiple layers of directories and subdirectories for specific files.
