FileName$ in EditSummaryInfo Doesn’t Work as Advertised

PSS ID Number: Q70101 Article last modified on 02-17-1993

Summary: FileName$ does not update SummaryInfo in a Word for Windows document unless the document is open.

More Information: According to EditSummaryInfo section on page 164 of the “Microsoft Word for Windows and OS/2 Technical Reference,” the FileName$ parameter “Makes changes to summary information for specified file names.” Thus, if the following macro is run: Sub Main EditSummaryInfo .Title=“hello”, .Author=“steve”,.FileName = “test” End Sub where the file “test” is not open but exists in the default directory, this macro should change the title to “hello” and the author to “steve”. However, running this macro does not change the title or the author. To change these statistics by running the macro above, the file being changed (“test” in the above example) must be open. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows versions 1.00 and 1.10. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
