In the “Microsoft Excel Function Reference,” the documentation on DISABLE.INPUT is incorrect. It says DISABLE.INPUT will disable all input, such as pressing the ESC key. However, the ESC key is the one input means that will halt the macro.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Excel for Windows version 3.0. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows version 4.0.

To block or reroute ESC, you may consider using CANCEL.KEY. The CANCEL.KEY function can specify whether the macro can be interrupted by pressing ESC. The following formula prevents the macro from being interrupted by pressing ESCAPE: =CANCEL.KEY(FALSE)
The following formula reactivates ESC to cancel macro execution:
=CANCEL.KEY(TRUE)
