The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft COBOL for MS-DOS and OS/2, versions 3.0 and 3.0a

Summary: Microsoft COBOL Compiler versions 3.0 and 3.0a do not update date and time stamps on recompiled object files. Because of this, using a MAKE file with MAKE or NMAKE causes the file to be recompiled when no changes have been made to the source file. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft COBOL Compiler versions 3.0 and 3.0a for MS-DOS and MS OS/2. This problem has been corrected in Microsoft COBOL Professional Development System version 4.0 for MS-DOS and MS OS/2. Note: COBOL version 4.0 comes with NMAKE version 1.12.
