Page 221 of the “Microsoft Operating System/2 Users Guide” explains how to extend a selection of text by using the arrow keys in combination with the SHIFT key. The documentation is correct, but not as thorough as it could be, since any of the key combinations that can be used to select text can also be used similarly to extend the selection. For example, CTRL+SHIFT+LEFT and CTRL+SHIFT+RIGHT can be used to extend the text selection a word at a time.
Microsoft has confirmed that this information should be added to the documentation. We will post new information here when the documentation has been updated to include this information.
