The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 3.x, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1
  • == Microsoft Word for MS-DOS versions 5.0 ==

SUMMARY

To transfer a file from Microsoft Word for MS-DOS version 5.0 to Word for the Macintosh, save the file with an attached style sheet in Rich Text Format (RTF). Word incorporates the styles incorporated in the saved file.

For example, to convert a document with styles in MS-DOS Word 5.0 to Word for the Macintosh, follow these steps:

  1. In MS-DOS Word 5.0, on the Format menu, click Stylesheet. On the Stylesheet menu, click Attach, to attach the style sheet you want to the current file.
  2. On the Transfer menu, click Save, and save the file in RTF format.
  3. Quit MS-DOS Word and transfer the file to the Macintosh.
  4. Start Word for the Macintosh. On the File menu, click Open, and locate and open the RTF document saved in step 2. When asked if you want to interpret the RTF, click Yes.

MORE INFORMATION

Although the above method allows MS-DOS Word documents to be transferred to the Macintosh with all of the Style Sheet formatting applied, the MS-DOS Word style sheet cannot be used or modified on the Macintosh.
