SYMPTOMS
After you use a German Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a CD-ROM to install one of the printers that is based on the Unidrv4 driver, and if you choose to print the test page, you receive an error message.
Following are the errors that you receive on English and German systems, respectively:
CAUSE
This error occurs because the Unidrv4.dll file that is distributed with German Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a CD- ROM is not updated.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this error and install the correct version of Unidrv4.dll, install a printer from an English Windows NT 4.0 SP6a CD-ROM.
Later, when you want the German version of the .dll file, you can reinstall from the German CD; the installation does not overwrite Unidrv4.dll with the incorrect German version.
If you are a driver developer, and you are distributing a printer that is based on Unidrv4.dll, you have to distribute the version of Unidrv4.dll that is on the English Windows NT 4.0 SP6a CD.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
