SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Outlook 2002 tries to log on to the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) server before you receive a prompt for your password even if the Remember Password check box is not selected. Therefore, some IMAP servers may reject any additional logon tries by Outlook 2002 in the same IMAP session, and Outlook 2002 cannot log on to the IMAP server.

Note This problem does not occur with every IMAP server, and the problem occurs depending on the IMAP server implementation.

This problem is corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
