SYMPTOMS

When you copy numbers from a Microsoft Access 2002 database and paste them into Microsoft Excel 2002, the data type of the pasted numbers is text. They data appears as numbers, but sorts as text and are not available for formulas and functions.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

This problem is corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the Paste Special command to paste the numbers in the Biff5 format.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
  2. Click Biff5 format, and then click OK.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3 and Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Access 2002 Runtime.
