Article ID: 327956

Article Last Modified on 10/30/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 2000 Service Pack 1

This article was previously published under Q327956

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Small Business Server (SBS) 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Upgrade Pack from the CD media, you can select a Microsoft Outlook 2002 Setup.exe file that exists in a location other than the CD. If you go to an other location (instead of installing the Setup.exe file from the CD), the Outlook installation does not start even after you enter the correct path to the Setup.exe file. You are repeatedly prompted to select the correct path for the Outlook Setup.exe file. If you click Cancel, you receive the following error message:

Error 1722: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

CAUSE

When you install the SBS 2000 SP1 Upgrade Pack from the CD media, you must install Outlook 2002 from CD 2 of the CD media.

RESOLUTION

  1. During the SBS 2000 SP1 installation, when the Setup program prompts you to decide whether you want to make Outlook 2002 available for client deployment, click Yes, and then click Next.
  2. When you receive the following message, insert CD 2 of the SBS 2000 SP1 Upgrade Pack CD media:

Please insert the Compact Disc labeled Microsoft Outlook Version 2002 into your CD-ROM drive

  3. Click OK to continue the installation.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
