SYMPTOMS
When you open an Excel 2002 workbook, it may take a long time before the workbook opens.
CAUSE
This issue may occur if the workbook contains a large number of VLOOKUP formulas.

By default the fix is on. However, you can turn the fix off. Follow these steps:
- Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKey_Current_User/Software/Microsoft/Office/10.0/Excel/Options - On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWord.
- Type QFE_Charlotte, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify.
- Type 1, and then click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
