ERROR SIGNATURE

This article describes a problem in which Microsoft Outlook unexpectedly quits (crashes) with the following error signature:

App Name     App Version   Module Name    Module Version    Offset

Outlook.exe  <appversion>  Pgpexch.dll    <version>         00005b20
        

where appversion is a number greater than or equal to 8.5.5104.0, and where version is a number greater than or equal to 5.1.2600.0. Additionally, other offsets are possible.

SYMPTOMS

When you use one of the Outlook products listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:

Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature similar to the error listed at the beginning of this article.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if PGP Corporate Desktop is installed on your computer.

PGP is supported by Network Associates Inc., the maker of McAfee.

WORKAROUND

Contact Network Associates Inc. to obtain assistance with removing the PGP software from your computer, or to inquire about updates for the PGP software that may resolve this issue.

The Office Error Reporting dialog box appears when an error occurs that results in a fatal event in the program.
