SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft MechWarrior 4: Inner Sphere 'Mech Pak or Microsoft MechWarrior 4: Clan 'Mech Pak, you may see that none of the new mechs are available when you play MechWarrior 4 games. Also, when you start MechWarrior 4, on the main menu you do not see the Mech Pak logos on the left or the right. For example, if you installed MechWarrior 4: Inner Sphere 'Mech Pak, "Meck Pak: Inner Sphere Reinforcements installed" should appear on the left of the main menu.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  • You try to use Inner Sphere or Clan mechs in the campaign game.
  • You install Black Knight after you install Inner Sphere or Clan 'Mech Pak.

Note The new mechs are not for the campaign games, and you can use them only in Multiplayer and Instant Action modes.

  • You have Intuit TurboTax installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

If you install Black Knight after you install Inner Sphere 'Mech Pak, the mechs from Inner Sphere 'Mech Pak and the Clan 'Mech Pak are not available in MechWarrior 4: Black Knight during Multiplayer and Instant Action. To resolve this issue, use one or more of the following methods in the order that they appear.

These steps are rather long, so you may want to print them out before you begin.

Method 1: Remove TurboTax If It Is Installed

If TurboTax software is installed on the computer, remove it. To remove the program, see the TurboTax software documentation. While TurboTax is installed on your computer, MechWarrior Mech Paks will not appear in the game. If you have any questions about this issue, contact TurboTax.

If removing TurboTax does not resolve this issue, continue to the next method.

Method 2: Download and Install the Update

  7. After the file succesfully downloads, insert the Mech Pack CD into the drive.

If the Mech Pack game window appears on the screen, close it.
  8. Go to the folder where you downloaded the SafeCast Repair Utility and double-click the file.

When you are prompted with the following message, click OK:

This will install run the SafeCast Repair Kit.

  9. After the install is complete, take out the Meck Pak CD from the drive and insert the MechWarrior 4 disc.
  10. If Meck Paks still missing in the game, continue to the next method
