SYMPTOMS

When you try to import slides from a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 presentation into a Word 2002 document, you may receive the following error message:

Normal.dot has caused a serious error the last time it was opened.

Word does not successfully import the slides.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if Symantec Corporation's Norton AntiVirus program is running on your computer. Norton AntiVirus may create a copy of the Normal.dot file. The Normal.dot file is a template used by Word. This can prevent the successful importation of slides.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, visit the following Symantec Web site to obtain an updated version of Norton AntiVirus or to receive help with the reconfiguration of Norton AntiVirus:
