APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 7.0

This article was previously published under Q321684

SUMMARY

When you embed an ActiveX control in Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can specify the CODEBASE attribute in the OBJECT tag. The CODEBASE attribute contains a Uniform Resource Locator (URL). This URL points to a Web site where the control can be downloaded if the control is not available on a user's system.

By design, you cannot use the CODEBASE attribute with the Microsoft Windows Media Player 7 control.

To download the latest version of the Windows Media Player control, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmedia

MORE INFORMATION

The Windows Media Player 7 control is much larger than the Windows Media Player 6.4 control. By design, therefore, the CODEBASE attribute is not supported because it would lead to a bad user experience for those users who are on a slow modem connection.
