Dungeon Siege: "Has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close" Error Message When You Try to Start the Game

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Dungeon Siege, the opening movie appears, but the Startup menu does not appear. Instead, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Dungeon Siege has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When you click click here, you receive error message details that are similar to the following:

Error Signature
AppName: dungeonsiege.exe AppVer: 0.2.3.801 ModName: d3dim700.dll
ModVer: 4.8.1.881 Offset: 0001c5cf

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if your video adapter driver is corrupted or incompatible with Dungeon Siege.

This issue is known to occur with some NVidia video drivers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download the latest driver for your video adapter. Contact your video adapter manufacturer for information about updated drivers.
